Opportunities Abroad
Traveling to other counties and seeing their textile apparel, clothes are manufactured, and the culture surrounding their fashion is an amazing opportunity Mississippi State University Fashion Design and Merchandising gives their students to excel in their understanding of the fashion industry on the other side of the world. A group of 16 students, myself included, traveled to Europe for 16 days in summer of 2022. Some of the experiences in London are the Vision and Virtuosity: By Tiffany & Co. at the Saatchi Gallery, The Fashioning Masculinities exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum, and a walking fashion tour down Savile Row. In Paris, the Musee Yves Saint Laurent Paris, the Alber Elbaz Tribute Show, and many more in Paris. In Italy, the Ponte Vecchio located in Florence is a market for vendors to sell their handmade leather goods and gold jewelry to those visiting. Hand-made leather goods is a prominent feature of visiting Italy, the Salvatore Ferragamo museum gave insight about the famous shoe brand, and Gucci had an exhibit called Archetypes: Gucci Gardens. All of these are suggestions for those traveling to Europe to study Fashion Design and Merchandising. It is a rewarding experience. More information regarding this trip is located in a flyer on the MSU Study Abroad website under Human Sciences.
